We are excited to share that the Maquoketa Girls Basketball Team has advanced to the State Basketball Tournament! The team will compete at 3:15 PM on Thursday, March 5th in Des Moines.
To support families and staff who wish to attend and to create as much consistency as possible during these events, Sacred Heart will dismiss all schools at 12:30 PM on Thursday, March 5th.
There will be no afternoon preschool and no afternoon or evening school activities on Thursday.
We recognize that some families may plan to pick students up early in order to attend the game. Please communicate any of these adjustments Beth in the office @ 563-652-3743.
By adjusting our schedule, we hope to:
Maintain a strong focus on learning during the morning.
Provide consistent supports and services to students who rely on them.
Allow staff and students to celebrate the accomplishments of our students and community.

The Kindergarten class also had fun drawing The Cat in the Hat. They did a fabulous job with this art lesson!
Happy Read Across America Day! The Kindergarten class had fun wearing their pajamas and reading with a stuffed animal to celebrate Dr Seuss's birthday today. 🎂
A reminder that there will be a 2 Hour Late Start on Tuesday, March 3rd due to the Maquoketa Girls Basketball Team competing at the State Basketball Tournament on Monday night. Bus pick up and parent drop off on Tuesday morning will be exactly two hours later than our regular times. There will be no morning activities, no morning preschool or breakfast on Tuesday.

Due to the late game time and anticipated late return Sacred Heart will operate on a two-hour late start on Tuesday, March 3rd.

I want to share an update regarding the situation from earlier today. The potential threat has been identified and is no longer considered a threat to our students or staff.
Thank you for your patience, understanding, and support as we worked through this situation. We recognize that moments like this can be concerning for families, and we appreciate the trust you placed in our staff and procedures while we prioritized student and staff safety.
I want to thank our staff for their calm and professional response, for helping students remain settled, and for supporting dismissal and family communication. I am also very grateful to the Maquoketa & Preston Police Department for their prompt response and partnership throughout the investigation.
We will take time at the end of the day to debrief with staff and ensure appropriate supports are in place. At this time, we plan to return to our regular school routine tomorrow (weather permitting).
Thank you again for your cooperation, patience, and continued partnership as we work together to keep our schools safe.
